Benefits of LED’s

If you are looking to reduce your household energy bills, taking a closer look at the lighting you have throughout your home could be an ideal place to start.  Properties on the Gold Coast and indeed Australia wide have experienced sky rocketing energy bills and reducing energy costs has become a way of life now.

In past years we have seen electricians fit incandescent light fittings, then seen a shift towards the popular halogen downlights.

Fast forward to 2016 and we see the emerging, energy efficient technology found in LED lights, now sees homeowners steering away from installing halogen downlights and incandescent bulbs for a preference for cost effective and low maintenance LED’s.

What is an LED?

LED stands for light emitting diode. LED's work differently to halogen or incandescent bulbs as they emit light in a specific direction. Halogen downlights and incandescent lights throw light in all directions, have a filament within them requiring energy to heat it, causing them to be ultimately much more expensive to run.

Energy efficient

LED’s are proven to use up to 85% less energy and last between 15,000 – 50,000 hours so LED bulbs don’t need to be replaced for a very long time. Incandescent bulbs can run up to 2000 hours and are no match for longevity to LED’s in terms of wattage hours.

Bright light

As LED’s have diodes and not a filament to heat, they allow instant, bright light when turned on. Incandescent bulbs can experience a delay, waiting for the filament to heat up to produce light. LED’s also run at a cooler temperature, reducing the risk of overheating leading to blown bulbs and fire hazards.

Investment

LED’s are an investment into the future. Spending a little more today means saving later on. Although incandescent bulbs and halogen downlights are initially cheaper to purchase then LED’s, they need to be replaced much more regularly. Purchasing LED’s and having them installed by a licensed electrician will give you much more value for money over the long term.
